This piece is a visual representation of my grief in losing my connection with my first love, movement.

Growing up, gymnastics was my entire life.
It was the only future I saw myself in, my passion, my hope, and my emotional escape.

Losing my mobility and my identity simultaneously left me completely destabilized. I watched every concept I built my โ€œselfโ€ upon completely disintegrate.

The only version of me I had ever known was gone, and I knew I could never get her back.

I had unraveled.
โ€” Illest Artist

The dancer is in her final pose, her weight against a support that is no longer there.

She herself is the structure, an iconoclast of identity the artist once held as her entire being.

Just as the ideas that were once enmeshed together to form a complete person and now find themselves breaking at the seams, she is unraveling into calligraphic forms that are both familiar and unreadable.
